Commission a Painting

Commission a Painting

I’ve had a few inquiries about commissions lately so I've created this commission option. Normally, when I paint, I simply start adding paint or ink to a blank paper and "see what happens"... Sometimes a theme developes, sometimes it doesn't. I love surprises!

In this case, if you give me a theme below, I will ponder it as I begin... My strategy will be to create two or three paintings that relate to your commission theme in some way. Perhaps it will be clear, perhaps it won't... Either way,  I'll send you photos of the completed paintings, and you will choose one of them to keep. (The others will simply go in my inventory for another soul to enjoy).

NOTE: Choosing colors or a color scheme is not an option as I am "color blind" or I have CVD "color vision deficency", or maybe I'd say I'm blessed with ESCP Extraintuitive Shadebiased Color Perception... This means I can see colors, but they might look quite different from what you see. So for me, it's basically essential to leave color out of this process. This will certainly add to the surprise of the whole thing.

Shipping?  Please choose the "pickup" at The Green Way option for shipping. You can pick it up in my studio... or, when it's time to ship your painting, I will box it up, and mail it to you. Then I will invoice you for the exact cost. If you choose another option for shipping, the cost may not be accurate, however, we can adjust the shipping cost as needed in due time.

Framed or Unframed?

Unframed paintings can be rolled and shipped inexpensively in a tube anywhere. However getting a watercolor painting framed can be relativelty costly and is actually quite tricky to do in a way that will give you a lifetime of carefree service. Framed paintings will cost more to ship and will be ready to hang when you receive them.

Framed: I will stretch 140 lb watercolor paper (before painting) at the appropriate size. (All sizes denote art/paper size. Framed pieces will end up a few inches larger than what's listed in the choices.) I will seal the painting you choose with beeswax, and frame it myself in my woodshop. I will generally use cedar from the sawmill across the street from my studio... and I may surprise you with something else. The frame will be wood with an oil finish, and will generally look like the frames you can see on my site. No glass. see my shop notes for details on materials, wax, etc.

Unframed: I will work on unstretched 140lb Arches or Fabriano paper, which means your painting might look like a typical watercolor painting with some buckling/warping of the paper. You'll want to frame this behind glass to protect the paint from any rogue sneezers. I will package these unframed pieces in a plastic sleeve, roll them and ship them anywhere.
